The BOLLI Process
Sourcing the Original Stamp
Our journey begins with the careful selection of rare and historic postage stamps. We seek out original stamps with rich stories, often from past centuries, that embody cultural and historical significance.
Scanning and Restoration
Each stamp is scanned at an ultra-high resolution to capture its intricate details. Given the age of many of our stamps, we expertly retouch and refine the images to restore their original vibrancy while preserving their authenticity.
Printing on Museum-Quality Paper
We print the restored stamp image on high-quality Hahnemühle German Etching 310gsm museum paper, renowned for its texture and durability. This paper is ideal for stamp art as it enhances colours and details, giving each print a rich, tactile feel.
Hand-Cutting the Stamp
After printing, we hand-cut the printed stamp to mimic the original perforations and edges of a genuine postage stamp. This intricate step brings out the authentic feel and look of the original stamp, ensuring each piece has the tactile and visual appeal of a real postage stamp.
Crafting the Frame by Hand
Our frames are not mass-produced; each one is crafted by hand from sustainably sourced wood. This process ensures that the frames are tailored to complement the art while providing durability and elegance. The result is a frame that not only protects the artwork but enhances its beauty.
Elevated Mount Effect
To enhance the presentation, we use an elevated mount technique that gives the impression of the stamp floating within the frame. This creates a unique shadow effect, adding depth and dimension to the artwork, and making the stamp appear to "hover" gracefully, highlighting its significance.
